Qiuling Yang (2021-2022)

Qiuling Yang received the PhD. degree in control science and engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2021. From 2018 to 2020, She was a visiting scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. Her research interests include computer vision with application to construction safety, reinforcement learning, and optimization.

Undergraduate Students

Isaac Joffe (2023, USRA, DRA)

Isaac Joffe is a BSc student in Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta, having just completed his third year of studies. After completing an internship in the construction industry, he joined the Smart Infrastructure TEchnologies (SITE) lab in September 2022 to complete a Dean’s Research Award project. Following this, he earned an Undergraduate Student Research Award from NSERC to continue pursuing his projects in Summer 2023. His research areas include the application of computer vision and other artificial intelligence techniques to structural generation, optimization, and analysis.

Yi Zhu (2021, DRA)

Yi Zhu was an undergraduate student in Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta. She was a DRA researcher in SITE in 2021. Her project was about the flexural design of reinforced concrete beams using a neural network. 

Atishay Jain (2023, Mitacs GRI)

Atishay Jain, a resident of Delhi, is an accomplished undergraduate student currently pursuing a dual degree program (B.Tech + M.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur). He has completed several programming projects and maintained an impressive CGPA of 9.15 out of 10 throughout his academic journey. Alongside his academic commitments, Atishay has secured a research internship at the University of Alberta under the guidance of Professor Qipei Mei. In this role, he will be contributing to the Structual Health Monitoring Project, leveraging his programming skills.

Alex Gutierrez (2023, Mitacs GRI)

Alex is an undergraduate student from Queretaro, Mexico who started his bachelor degree in Robotics Engineering at Arizona State University in 2021 and is expected to graduate in 2025. He will be working in the AR project to improve the safety and productivity in construction sites. He has experience in Coding in Matlab, Symulink, Arduino, and design in Solidworks.
